Top-ranked UConn crushed DePaul 102–35 at Gampel Pavilion, marking its 40th Big East regular-season win and 27th straight victory overall. Sarah Strong led with 20 points in the Huskies’ most dominant performance against DePaul. Azzi Fudd and Kayleigh Heckel added 16 each, while Sue Bird’s No. 10 jersey retirement highlighted the night. UConn next faces No.16 USC.
The No. 1-ranked University of Connecticut women's basketball team defeated DePaul on Sunday at Gampel Pavilion by extending its winning streak and making it its 40th victory in the Big East regular season.
UConn together put up a dominant 102 on the board while DePaul finished only with 35.
The Huskies played wearing a C-Ball uniform in order to celebrate Sue Bird, who got her No.10 UConn jersey officially retired before Sunday's game.
The Huskies' scoring was led by their sophomore forward Sarah Strong, who scored 20 points while posting five rebounds, five steals, and five assists.
The USC Transfer guard Kayleigh Heckel had 16 points and grabbed six rebounds. Azzi Fudd also posted 16 points and four steals in her 21 minutes of playing time. Huskies in total had 23 against DePaul. Sophomore centre Jana El Alfy scored her season high, contributing 11 points, while KK Arnold chipped in seven points and seven assists.
The Huskies were 58-18 at halftime with strong and fudd together, adding 10 points to help UConn score its first 14 points.
On the other hand, Gina Davorija and Devon Hagemann scored 8 points each to Support DePaul’s game against UConn. DePaul’s 5-for-10 freshman Ally Timm knocked down back-to-back shots from the deep during the second quarter.
The Huskies' win against DePaul makes it their 27th consecutive game win and also their biggest win since the 47-point win in 2013 against the DePaul Blue Demons.
DePaul will face UMass on Thursday at home, and THE undefeated UConn is set to play on Saturday against No.16 USC.
